The Vancouver Police Board holds seven regular public board meetings a year.

Agendas and public reports are posted on the website 48 hours in advance of the meetings.

At the Board meetings, the Board reviews reports, approves motions, receives updates and presentations from the Vancouver Police Department, discusses new business, receives updates from its standing committees and Board representatives, considers Service or Policy Complaints, and asks questions to inform discussions and its decision-making process.

Members of the public have the option of attending meetings (relevant to COVID-19 health authority guidance and restrictions), watching the livestream, or viewing the archived video of the meeting at a later time. Minutes of the meetings are approved at the following meeting, and then subsequently uploaded to the website – minutes can be found here.

The Board also meets in private (called “in camera”) when Board directors need to discuss certain matters, including public security. In accordance with Police Act Section 69, in-camera meetings happen when public disclosure could impair law enforcement, individuals’ financial or personal affairs, or labour issues. There is no livestream or archived video of these meetings. Approved minutes for these meetings are sent to Police Services. The Board may also discuss matters in private that are subject to legal counsel, or relevant sections of the Freedom of Information and Privacy Protection Act (FOIPPA).
