BC police boards develop their own additional policies and operating guidelines for further clarity and direction, depending on their unique needs. The Board’s manual also outlines the Board’s process around oversight of the Vancouver Police Department, defines how the Board will be accountable to partners and stakeholders (which includes the people of Vancouver), and defines the expected conduct of Board directors.

This Governance Manual is the reference point for all Board directors to ensure that decision making is based on sound principles consistent with the Board’s mandate and legislative context. The manual serves for the benefit of the Board directors, the Executive Director and such employees who may from time to time support the functioning or operation of the Board and its committees.

The Governance Manual is reviewed by the Board’s Governance Standing Committee.
