The Vancouver Police Board (the Board) provides oversight and direction to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD). This includes submitting an annual provisional operating budget to Vancouver City Council for approval.
The Board has a fiduciary responsibility to exercise the highest duty of care for the safety of the people of Vancouver, the VPD and its employees. Budget discussions are an ongoing and collaborative effort. In determining an appropriate budget, the Board extensively engages with Vancouver City Council in order to consider the City’s concerns and priorities regarding the public safety needs within Vancouver.
