Vancouver Police Board Announcement of Board Chair Departure

VANCOUVER, BC – The Vancouver Police Board (VPB) is announcing today that Frank Chong, Board Chair, will be concluding his term of service at the end of June 2026. In alignment with governance best practices, a 90-day advance notice of departure is being provided to ensure seamless transition within the Board’s leadership. Frank Chong’s scheduled departure marks the successful completion of the maximum six-year director term under the BC Police Act, and a full two-year term as Board Chair under the VPB board manual. By providing early notice, the Board reinforces its commitment to stability, transparency, and the continuity of civilian oversight for the Vancouver Police Department.

Ensuring a Stable Succession
As part of the succession process, Frank Chong has been in close communication with the board directors, VPD executives, Musqueam Council, staff at the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, Council and the City of Vancouver. This communication is to ensure all parties are aware and supportive with the succession process that is underway. In particular, the 90-day notification period will help to facilitate the orderly succession process to:

  • Manage upcoming Board elections, and the appointment of a new Board Chair to be announced at the April 23, 2026 Board meeting;
  • Complete all necessary governance procedures and limit operational disruption; and
  • Support directors as they prepare to assume new leadership roles.

Throughout this period, the Vancouver Police Board remains fully engaged in its core mandate. The Board’s priorities continue to be centered on effective civilian oversight, public safety, and maintaining the highest standards of organizational accountability.
