Today is a special day for the Vancouver Police Board (the Board) as we – along with Chief Constable Adam Palmer – host the Commendation Awards Ceremony.

We have the great honour to acknowledge and pay tribute to both community members and VPD sworn and civilian professionals who have demonstrated the highest standards of conduct, humanitarianism and bravery in service to the community.

The Awards of Merit will be presented by Mayor Kennedy Stewart, Vancouver Police Board Chair, on behalf of the Board, to community members who, on their own initiative and in the face of danger, assisted the police or made a lifesaving attempt.

The Jim and Vicki Chu Community Safety Leader Award is being presented to Dr. Carol Lee for her outstanding contribution towards safety in the community and for the leadership and passion she has displayed in making Vancouver a safer city.

Chief Constable Palmer will then present the Award of Valour and Chief Constable’s Commendations and Citations to sworn and civilian professionals of the Vancouver Police Department who have displayed exceptional skill, judgement, dedication or integrity in the performance of duty. Sgt. Dan Ames and Ms. Davina Chung will receive their highly deserved awards for Police Officer of the Year and Civilian Professional of the Year.

This is a day that, as a Board, we all look forward to. Having the opportunity to honour the caring and courageous community members and VPD officers and civilian professionals who have taken action to help keep Vancouver safe and healthy is a highlight of our work as a Board.
